Feeling/Thinking in Nemetics – A Challenge

Here is a challenge in Complexity Thinking as in Nemetics (2nd stage): -

How or by what method would we be able to figure out  or feel possible or approximate directions to the following questions around a complex adaptive system or a complex creative system — human being.

1. Around what time human beings or their ancestors were able to stand erect?

2. Around what time human beings started to cover their bodies or wore clothes or dresses?

Hint:

Any complex adaptive/creative system has many elements in it which are interdependent and coexist and co-evolve along with other elements over time.  As one thing changes the other changes too. The trick is to feel the ecology and then think of elements that were present in the ecology of the human adaptive system right from the earliest times and have evolved along with human adaptation through the ages.

Feelings/Thoughts?

(note – such feeling/thinking is needed in the Engage stage of Nemetics, which comes after the Notice or Attention stage of Nemetics)

  1. I suppose it is a co-evolution with various conditions of the ecology. I’ve heard that our species may have been responding to the need to navigate tall grasses. Our ancestors may have desired the use their hands, in favor of embracing tools and gathering food for each other. Clothing was likely a response to necessity, due to cold weather, or protection against other elements. There are many theories, but all suggest a creative response to conditions.

    1. That is the general direction. But in this case we are trying to ascertain the approximate time when these events might have happened. The problem is what might we use to find that out. If grass grew taller then that event is likely to come before human beings started standing on their feet. It might not indicate the time.

  2. Darwin already formed the basis of these answers. As Dan hinted, the evolutionary process likely would have been at play in both these scenarios. Creativity leads to adaptability, and then change occurs which can take many forms… even anthropological change.

    1. Agree it is evolution at play. But that does not tell us the time. Our problem is to ascertain that time as close as possible. How might we choose to do that is the issue.
